In a fast, throw-away world, we wanted Hipi pieces to signal a conscious return to quality, longevity and circularity.
Biodegradable, sustainable and completely renewable, our wool is an entirely natural fiber, grown year-round here at Bagshot. With no microplastics, no chemicals, and no residues, wool is an excellent choice for your body, your home and our environment.
Wool is a natural protein fibre that grows from the follicles of the sheep’s skin. Scientists are as yet unable to replicate the unique properties of wool.
As long as our sheep have grass to eat, they will produce new fleeces each year, making it a renewable fibre source. Here at Hipi, we safeguard our environment and do everything we can to be more efficient and make our farm system and produce sustainable for the next generation.
At the end of its life, plant your Hipi piece in the soil or under a tree and it will break down to nothing, returning only beneficial nutrients to the ground, within a very short time. Just remember to remove any hardware such as zips or rivets.
Wool fibres resist tearing and are able to be bent back on themselves over 20,000 times without breaking. Due to its crimped structure, wool is also naturally elastic, and so wool products have the ability to stretch comfortably with wear or use, but are then able to return to their natural shape, making them resistant to wrinkling and sagging. Wool therefore maintains its appearance in the longer term, adding value to the product and its lifespan.
Wool is far more efficient than other textiles at absorbing sweat and releasing it into the air, before bacteria has a chance to develop and produce unpleasant odour. You can be confident that your hat won’t get stinky!
Wool fibres are crimped, and when tightly packed together, form millions of tiny pockets of air. This unique structure allows it to absorb and release moisture in the atmosphere or from the wearer – making it extremely breathable. Think air conditioning on your body or in your home.

The protective waxy coating on wool fibres makes wool products resistant to staining and they also pick up less dust as wool is naturally anti-static.
Wool absorbs moisture in its fibre, making it hygroscopic. As the humidity of the surrounding air rises and falls, the fibre absorbs and releases water vapour. Heat is generated and retained during the absorption phase, which makes wool a natural insulator. Plus it feels really warm and snuggly!
Wool is not known to cause allergies and does not promote bacterial growth. It reduces floating dust in the atmosphere by binding it within its microscopic scales.
Thanks to its hygroscopic abilities, wool constantly reacts to changes in body temperature, maintaining its wearer’s thermophysical comfort in both cold and warm weather.
